Home Remedies Backed By Science

Have you ever thought of putting a banana peel on an itchy bug bite? Probably not. Well there are some strange home remedies that have surprisingly been proven to work!
If you have a minor injury, but can’t get to the store for medicine, you may want to rethink some of these unique home remedies! Believe it or not, there are actual studies to prove that these remedies actually work.
Here are some of the home remedies that sound strange, but actually work:
1. Have an itchy bug bite?  Find a banana peel.  Holding the inside of the banana peel against the bite will reduce the inflammation and relieve some of the itch.
2. Feeling a little nauseated?  Try some ginger tea.  Food made with ginger can relieve nausea often better than over-the-counter medicines, one study found.  But check the label.  Just because it’s called “Ginger Ale” doesn’t mean that it contains actual ginger.
3. Warts annoying you?  Break out the duct tape.  Put a piece of duct tape over the wart for three days.  Remove the tape and scrub with a pumice stone.  Repeat this process until the wart disappears.  Although this advice sounds like fiction, a study found that it removed 80% of warts.  Freezing warts with dry ice, the typical medical treatment, only helped 60% of the time.
4. Found yourself in poison ivy?  Scrub with dish soap.  Researchers found that rubbing regular dish soap for 25 seconds over the site of contact will reduce the chance of a reaction by half.
Keep in mind home remedies are not always the best alternative. Freedom Home Care recommends all seniors visit their doctor regularly and properly treat any ailment they have.
