The Best Summer Travel Destinations for Seniors

It’s always good to take time out wherever you are in life and engage in some R & R. While many seniors may already be in retirement, there’s a good chance that they may still feel bogged down by the monotony of everyday life. According to a travel trend survey done in 2016, 99 percent of participants had made plans to travel in 2015. Even if they’re receiving in-home care or personalized care services, if they’re mobile, they’ll travel.
So just where do older Americans go when they want to get away from it all? Freedom Home Care compiled a list of some of the most popular summer destinations spots for seniors:

Florida

One of the reasons why the Sunshine State is so popular among people aged 65 and older is because of its huge retirement community.

For instance, Summerfield area development, The Villages, is the largest retirement community in the world. Older Americans love it because it offers just about any kind of recreational activity you can think of. Other places like Orlando’s theme parks, the PGA National Resort and Miami’s white sand beaches are also senior crowd-pleasers.

Missouri

Missouri offers lots of fun things for the traveling senior, as well. Known to natives as the “Live Music Show Capital of the World” the Show-Me State offers live music shows, shopping, riverboat cruises, golfing and more.

Big Sur

If exploration is your thing, a trip to Big Sur just might do the trick. If you’re a California resident, consider packing up the RV and taking a drive down the 85-mile coastline and taking in the beautiful ocean views. Or maybe enjoy a stay at one of Big Sur’s quaint coastal inns or hotels.

Las Vegas

Who doesn’t love Vegas? For seniors who don’t mind games of chance, the strip is teeming with resorts and casinos. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out nightly performances by some of the world’s top artists. And many of the places in Vegas are wheelchair accessible, catering the 65 and older crowd.

New Mexico

Sante Fe New Mexico is said to have one of the best open-air theaters in the country – The Santa Fe Opera. The architecture alone is worth a trip to the mid-west.

There, you’ll find some of the most talented opera singers showcasing their skills, while the mystical magical, timelessness of the Opera takes things to a whole new level.

Virgin Islands

Need a tropical get-away that’s close to home? Visit the Islands of St. John in the Virgin Islands. As a destination that caters to its tourists, we’ve heard that the service is unrivaled. From beachfront bungalows to jewelry stores and boutiques, this is one adventure you won’t want to miss.
