The Effects of Stress on Physical Health

We all know that unfortunately, stress is a part of everyone’s life. When people experience stress more frequently, it can put a strain not just on your mental health, but your physical health as well.  For seniors, it can be harder on your body because of the physical impacts from stress. We here at Freedom Home Care Highland Park know just how important your health is and have shared some tips to eliminate stress.

The first sign of stress affecting your physical health is developing a sleeping disorder. While this is a pretty common one, being up all night can be a reason why pressure is influencing your body to have pain. Try taking a relaxing bath before bed to calm you down and help make your body more tired.

Other signs that stress may be getting to you can be dullness, headaches, stomach issues, increased heart rate, catching colds more often, nervousness, and grinding of teeth. If you are experiencing these signs, try these tips below so stress doesn’t impact your health.

Try using breathing activities to calm yourself down and help bring your blood pressure back to normal. Breathing activities like long, deep breaths are a very useful way to keep your respiratory track well. This is also a great way to get rid of nervousness from stress as well.

Nourishment is another way you can eliminate the effects of stress on your health. Making sure you are taking the right sustenance on time every day can enable you to handle stress when it comes to keeping your wellbeing good. Maintaining a healthy diet is another way to reduce stress in order to help your physical health. Adding a variety of fruits and vegetables to your meals will help your overall health and therefore, reduce stress.

We all know that some stress is just not avoidable, but how you choose to handle the stress is what determines if your wellbeing and health will be affected. Take each problem at a time, remember to take deep breaths, and try not to let it get to you. Try volunteering and make yourself feel better and happy after doing so!
