Video spotlight: Meals On Wheels

This week, we here at Freedom Home Care have focused on helping the elderly loved ones in our lives maintain a healthy weight. Therefore, we thought it was only natural for us to stop for a moment to sing the praises of the Meals On Wheels Association of America. The organization has been working hard to keep the needy senior population healthy and happy since 1954.
What began in Philadelphia more than 50 years ago has grown to be America’s largest national organization, which represents about 5,000 community-based senior nutrition programs across the States as well as the U.S. territories. Each day, the volunteers behind those groups provide more than 1 million meals to seniors.
“While remarkable, the one million meals per day figure underestimates the size and shape of our network and its reach and influence in communities across America,” explain the editors at the MOWAA website. “In addition to the hundreds of thousands of seniors who receive meals, there are many thousands of professionals employed at the various local Senior Nutrition Programs across the U.S. More notable than that is the virtual army of volunteers who also ‘work’ for these programs. It is said that this group, numbering between 800,000 and 1.7 million individuals, is the largest volunteer army in the nation.”
So watch the video to learn more about Meals On Wheels and be sure to contact your local chapter to discover how you can help out.
