How to Make Halloween Healthier

In the days and weeks leading up to Halloween, the stores are filled with pumpkins, costumes, and of course candy- lots and lots of candy. What originally started as all Hallows Eve has now turned into a day of tricks and treats. While many will spend this day snacking on bite sized chocolates and sugar filled sweets, there are plenty of options to make this Halloween just as fun without all the added calories and sugar crashes later on. Here at Freedom Home Care we have complied a few healthy alternatives to the traditional candy fare that will still delight all those little ghosts and goblins.

  •       Toys

While it may sound expensive, handing out toys for Halloween this year could not only be a healthier option, but cost effective too. Stores like Party City or online company Oriental Trading offer larger party pack of Halloween or Fall themed items like stickers, spider rings, temporary tattoos and more for great prices that could cost you less than all those bags of candy.

  •       Fruit Snacks

We don’t know any kid that doesn’t love fruit snacks; even most adults love them! Fruit snacks are sweet and are great for even wee little ones. Costco offers bulk options, and special packs like Annie’s Homegrown also offer vegan options of the fruity snacks that will make even the mature trick or treaters happy.

  •       Glow necklaces/sticks

Every kid loves a glow stick or necklace during a parade or picnic, but on Halloween these treats are spooky and practical. With kids running all over the neighborhood it will be even easier to spot them haunting your street. These necklaces can be bought in bulk at party stores, online, stores like Walmart or Target, or even the dollar store. Buy a few extras; the accompanying parents may want one too!

  •       Dried fruits

Raisins might not seem like a treat, but yogurt covered raisins taste delicious and are healthy too. Offering boxes of these to trick or treaters will surely be a hit. Companies like Sun Maid offer individual boxes of them to make it even easier to hand out.
Spend your Halloween season spreading spooky fun and healthy treats. Happy Halloween from all of us here at Freedom Home Care!
